About Denton Texas

Denton is a city located in North Texas, a suburb of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The city feels small but is actually the 27th most populous in Texas with 113,383 citizens according to the 2010 United States Census. It was a Texas land grant that created Denton County in 1946. The city proper was incorporated shortly thereafter in 1866. The name comes from pioneer and captain of the Texas militia John B. Denton. The city is home to two universities, University of North Texas and Texas Women’s University. Both are over 100 years old, established i 1890 and 1901 respectively.

The growth of the city accelerated after the construction of the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. As of 2011, Denton is listed as seventh in fastest growing cities in America with a population over 100,000.
